Spinnova – Beyond categorization

As a completely novel, disruptive innovation, we often see that we defy simple categorization on both our target market, the textile industry, and the equity market we have recently entered. This is of course understandable, as both have established categories for material choices and investment allocations.

In fact, we are also unable to find a close peer from any other textile material innovation out there, let alone a stock exchange listed company that does what we do. So what kind of an investment is Spinnova?

Firstly, Spinnova is the ultimate green investment; a sustainable material innovation that’s industrialized in the most sustainable way possible. Compared to cotton, which the fibre most resembles, SPINNOVA® fibre saves 64.5% of CO2 emissions and 99.5% of water alone, and sheds no microplastics. It ticks most boxes of both a brand with ambitious sustainability goals and the portfolio of an ESG focused investor.

Spinnova is also a technology investment; after all, we are the exclusive technology supplier of the proprietary tech we have created, to anyone producing SPINNOVA® fibre anywhere in the future. We currently hold 36 patents granted and another 46 pending globally, on the technology and the fibre innovation.

On top of producing fibre in a joint venture model, such as with the world’s largest market pulp producer Suzano, we also intend to sell special fabrics made with our sustainable fibre, to those brands who prefer to buy fabric instead of fibre. Both the fabrics and the fibre will be sold under the protected SPINNOVA® brand.

Hence, Spinnova represents the textile industry, but not as a textile brand, a mill, or even the average commodity. This is because as a material, SPINNOVA® fibre will be an ingredient; a quality guarantee of a product containing that special brand that adds to its sustainability – much like GoreTex is a sign of a breathable and weatherproof item.

Originating from the Finnish top-notch expertise in the pulp and paper industry and putting much focus on fibre made of wood raw material, Spinnova also represents the future of the forest industry but not the forest industry directly.

In addition to producing fibre out of sustainably sourced wood, the same clean technology is able to transform almost any type of cellulose into textile fibre. What’s even more, we’re already piloting a unique leather waste based fibre. We are eagerly waiting for further waste raw materials such as agricultural or textile waste, to become available to us in big volumes. Therefore, Spinnova is a technology platform for multiple material innovations to come.

Considering this, as well as our maturity stage and business targets of e.g. positive EBIT in 4-6 years, we are also a long-term investment. Above all, our innovation is an investment in the good of our planet and humanity, as a maximum environmental handprint is what it’s being scaled big for.

Stay sustained
