Rejlers has been selected as a partner for the preparation of Spinnova’s process design package

Spinnova, the sustainable textile material company and Rejlers Finland Oy, the technical design and consulting company have agreed on cooperation in the preparation of a process design package for Spinnova's fibre production technology. The preparation of the process design package is an essential part of the planning for the scaling of SPINNOVA® fibre production.

The process design package cooperation includes expert and design work, specification and plant sizing for the next project development phases of the production-scale unit to be built in the future. The package is not site-specific or tied to a specific geographic location but can be widely deployed around the world.

The process design package can be used in planning the scaling up of production, regardless of the raw material base of the SPINNOVA® fibre. The patented technology developed by Spinnova can be used to produce textile fibres from wood and waste streams such as leather, textile or agricultural waste without the use of harmful chemicals in the fibre spinning process.

“The process design package preparation is a way to formalize the learnings gathered from Woodspin’s first factory and creates a scalable technology package for future plants. Initially, we will use the results of the preparatory work in the feasibility planning of Woodspin’s second plant. The same package can also be used more widely when planning factories that produce fibre from other than wood-based raw materials,” explains Teemu Lindberg, Executive Vice President, Production Scaling at Spinnova.

“Cooperation with a significant leader in the circular economy such as Spinnova strongly supports our strategy to act as an expert design and project partner for technology developers. It shows that we are strengthening our position in the development of new technologies and in the early stages of the project lifecycle”, says Samuli Kyttälä, Senior Vice President Industry at Rejlers Finland Oy.

Spinnova and Rejlers expect the preparatory work to take place in the first half of 2024.
